- FromSoftware and Bandai Namco confirmed Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 on 28th August, pairing the base game with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion
- The Tarnished Edition adds two new starting classes, all-new character armour, and customisation options for the spectral steed Torrent
- Those new classes, armour, and Torrent options are also being released as paid content on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
- The Switch 2 port was delayed from its originally planned 2025 launch window so FromSoftware could make 'performance adjustments'
- Elden Ring first launched in 2022 and has since sold over 30 million copies, followed by the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and multiplayer spin-off Nightreign
- The Elden Ring film from director Alex Garland and A24 is scheduled for 3rd March 2028, with Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Kit Connor, Peter Serafinowicz, and Nick Offerman among the announced cast and a reported budget 'well over' $100M
Why it matters: Switch 2 owners get the biggest third-party RPG of the generation on 28 August, with DLC bundled in, after a year-long performance-tuning delay. Elden Ring has sold over 30 million copies since 2022, and the new classes, armour, and Torrent options will also reach the 30-million-strong player base on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
