- Ryan Gold was suspended indefinitely by the NFL after an investigation found he provided confidential, non-public information about the Cardinals' 2026 draft selections before picks were announced, and also placed parlay bets on NFL and college games
- The NFL said the league has no reason to believe the integrity of any game was affected, and stated no other Cardinals employee, coach, or player was aware of or involved in the activity
- The Cardinals issued a statement saying the violation involves 'a single employee' and that the organization's focus is on preparing for training camp and the 2026 season
- Gold, in his 13th season with Arizona, was promoted to director of college scouting in June 2025 after serving as assistant director of college scouting from 2022-24 and college scouting coordinator from 2018-21
- The NFL's review included interviews with relevant people and an examination of electronic records, with the league noting the Cardinals fully cooperated throughout the investigation
- Gold retains the right to appeal the suspension, which stems from a policy the league says is 'annually reviewed with all NFL personnel'
Why it matters: Gold's suspension — stemming from both leaking inside draft information and placing parlay bets — is the latest high-profile test of the NFL's gambling policy, which the league actively reviews with its 20,000-plus personnel. For the Cardinals, losing a 13-year scouting executive days before training camp creates a late-summer disruption to their college scouting department just months before the 2026 draft cycle.
