NFL suspends Cardinals exec Gold over 2026 draft leaks

- Ryan Gold was suspended indefinitely by the NFL after an investigation determined he provided confidential, nonpublic information about the Cardinals' 2026 draft selections before picks were announced and also placed parlay bets on NFL and college games.
- Gold is in his 13th season with the Cardinals and had been promoted to director of college scouting in June 2025, after serving as assistant director of college scouting from 2022-24 and college scouting coordinator from 2018-21.
- The NFL said there is no indication any game or play was affected by Gold's activity, and that no other Cardinals coach, player, or staff member was aware of or involved in the violations.
- Gold retains the right to appeal the suspension and could not be reached for comment on Friday, while the Cardinals said they "fully support the league's decision" and called it a matter involving "a single employee."
- NFL gambling policy strictly prohibits league and club personnel from participating in or facilitating any sports gambling and from sharing nonpublic information with third parties; the league said at least 15 players — most recently then-Colts defensive back Isaiah Rodgers in June 2023, reinstated April 2024 — have been suspended for gambling violations since 1963.
Why it matters: Gold's violation — leaking 2026 draft selections — goes beyond a typical betting ban and raises competitive-intelligence stakes for rival clubs who may have received the data. As a front-office (not player) suspension, it tests the league's gambling policy on personnel it rarely penalizes. The Cardinals had just promoted Gold to director of college scouting in June 2025 and now face training camp without him.
