- Jake Connor was left out of the squad despite winning last year's Super League Man of Steel award and recording 43 assists this season for Leeds Rhinos.
- Victor Radley returns to the England fold after winning Sunday's NRL Grand Final with Sydney Roosters, and is joined by Grand Final teammate Hugo Savala.
- Hugo Savala is one of five uncapped players in the squad, alongside Zach Eckersley, Max King, Ben Talty, and Sam Walters.
- Herbie Farnworth, the Dally M centre of the year, and Dom Young — two of England's top performers at the 2022 World Cup — return to the side.
- Wigan Warriors supply seven of the 23 players: Junior Nsemba, Brad O'Neill, Harry Smith, Luke Thompson, Sam Walters, Ethan Havard, and Zach Eckersley.
- Brisbane Broncos duo Max King and Ben Talty are both included among the five uncapped players.
Why it matters: McDermott's 23-man World Cup squad includes five uncapped players and drops last year's Man of Steel Jake Connor, who recorded 43 assists this season. Wigan Warriors supply seven of the 23 selections — the most of any club in the group.
