- BBC Sport rebranded its successful World Cup Predictor game as "Match of the Day Predictor" to cover the new club season
- Each round requires players to predict the outcome of six fixtures drawn from across domestic and European competitions
- The game runs on a streak system — every consecutive round adds one to the streak, while missing a round resets it to zero
- Rounds open on Fridays with the first match's kick-off time as the prediction deadline; the rest of the week covers the following set of matches
- Players pick a winner or draw per match (knockout fixtures offer only winner options), and once submitted, predictions are locked in
- Latecomers can join at any time, and after submitting they can see how other players predicted the same matches
- The game is restricted to UK users only
Why it matters: BBC Sport is turning a one-tournament hit into a season-long engagement product, using a streak mechanic that punishes lapses with a reset to zero — a deliberate nudge toward weekly return visits from UK football fans.
