- SS Rajamouli heads to Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Thursday for a work-in-progress presentation of 'Baahubali: The Eternal War,' a CGI animated spin-off he is producing through Arka Mediaworks, one of nine animated features in the festival's WIP sidebar.
- 'Baahubali: The Eternal War' follows murdered Prince Baahubali into an afterlife war across 14 realms between Devas and Asuras, and is directed by Ishan Shukla from a screenplay by Scott Mosier, with animation director Antoine Charryron and CG supervisor Simon Brown on the Annecy panel alongside art director Ajey Lele.
- Rajamouli paused from shooting his live-action film 'Varanasi,' starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Mahesh Babu, which completes physical production in August and is slated for worldwide theatrical release on April 7, 2027 — the same year the animated 'Baahubali' spin-off hits theaters.
- The French Cinematheque in Paris will host a three-day Rajamouli retrospective from June 26 to 28 featuring both Baahubali epics, 'RRR,' 'Maryada Ramanna,' and 'Eega,' with a masterclass on June 27 and screenings at landmark Paris cinemas on June 29 and 30.
- Rajamouli will receive a special award at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival's 25th anniversary, following a screening of 'RRR' at Institut Lumière in Lyon, while Carlotta Films re-releases 'RRR' in France in late July.
Why it matters: The Annecy WIP slot, Cinematheque retrospective, and Neuchâtel honor give Rajamouli a multi-stop European platform to showcase the Baahubali franchise ahead of two 2027 theatrical releases — the animated 'Eternal War' and the live-action 'Varanasi' — positioning Arka Mediaworks to expand a globally proven IP into animation while cementing institutional European recognition of the director's filmography.
