- Circle Fiction Orbit selected five feature projects for its third incubator event, a seven-day residential retreat in Herceg Novi through November 1, chosen by Suzy Gillet, Jelena Mišeljić and Ivana Mladenović for a lineup focused on mid-career teams.
- Leonor Bettencourt Loureiro brings Por Este Arroios Acima, her second fiction feature after C’est Pas la Vie en Rose, with Rita de Moura Santos of Grumpy Panda Productions producing; the project explores a traumatic accident’s effects on body, city and community.
- Irine Jordania presents Nutsa.Love, her second feature after Air Blue Silk, about an unlikely couple’s relationship in Tbilisi; Elene Margvelashvili produces.
- Sabine Lubbe Bakker brings Premier Souffle, about a rebellious outsider seeking a place after years isolated from her community; Baldr Film produces, while her 2020 film Becoming Mona traveled the festival circuit.
- Katarina Bulajić develops Leech, her first feature about a woman returning home to confront betrayal; Ana Vujadinovic of Giggling Goat Production co-writes and produces, and Bulajić’s short A Special Day is due at FilmFestival Cottbus.
- Marta Prus brings Soloist, a drama set in elite ballet and focused on reinvention at the end of a career; it follows her documentary Over The Limit about Olympic gold medalist Margarita Mamun and is produced by Telemark.
- Circle Fiction Orbit has three projects from its first two editions on the festival circuit: Lex Julja competing for Best Baltic Film in Tallinn in November, IDDA in Toronto and Perla in Rotterdam.
Why it matters: The five selected teams are receiving a seven-day residential retreat in Herceg Novi through November 1, led by Bianca Oana with Myriam Sassine, Dana Bunescu and Dominique Welinski. Beyond the new lineup, Circle Fiction Orbit’s first two editions have already yielded three festival-circuit projects, with work reaching Tallinn, Toronto and Rotterdam.
