- Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle international theatrical distribution of Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, while Netflix retains domestic distribution for the February 12, 2027 worldwide theatrical and April 2, 2027 streaming debut.
- The film will open in IMAX and theaters worldwide on February 12, 2027, with IMAX previews screening exclusively starting February 10, 2027, before its Netflix debut on April 2, 2027.
- Narnia is effectively Netflix's second wide theatrical release after August's KPop Demon Hunters Singalong, which delivered the streamer's first No. 1 domestic box office weekend with a $19M take.
- Sony and Netflix locked a $7 billion-plus worldwide Pay-1 licensing deal in January under which SPE's feature films stream on Netflix after their full theatrical and home entertainment windows.
- The cast is led by newcomers David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, alongside Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep, with an original score by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt (the Barbie duo).
- Dan Lin, Chairman of Netflix Film, called the project "bold and ambitious filmmaking" and framed the theatrical release as a complement to the streaming launch: "sometimes a film like this comes along and we can give the filmmaker a different canvas."
Why it matters: This marks Netflix's second wide theatrical release after KPop Demon Hunters delivered the streamer's first $19M No. 1 domestic weekend in August. The arrangement extends the January $7 billion-plus Pay-1 partnership between Sony and Netflix, with Sony's established international distribution infrastructure handling a Greta Gerwig film featuring Meryl Streep and Daniel Craig before it becomes a Netflix exclusive.
