- Sony Pictures Animation announced a fifth "Hotel Transylvania" film, "The Haunting of Hotel Transylvania," for theatrical release on Oct. 8, 2027, with Sony distributing in North America and Amazon MGM Studios handling international distribution.
- Jennifer Kluska and Alan Hawkins are set to direct, with Lawrence Jonas producing and franchise originator Genndy Tartakovsky alongside Michelle Murdocca serving as executive producers.
- The plot finds Dracula in retirement while his daughter Mavis runs the monster hotel, until a series of spooky, unexplained events sends the Drac Pack on a mystery-solving adventure.
- The original "Hotel Transylvania" (2012) grossed $355 million worldwide, with "Hotel Transylvania 2" earning $475 million and "Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation" earning $530 million, establishing the franchise's theatrical track record.
- "Hotel Transylvania: Transformania," the fourth installment, premiered exclusively on Prime Video in 2022 — making the fifth film a return to theatrical exhibition for the franchise.
- Kristine Belson and Damien de Froberville, Presidents of Sony Pictures Animation, said the new film honors the franchise's "legacy of heart and humor," while Amazon MGM Studios' Head of Film Courtenay Valenti called it a "beloved tradition for families around the world."
Why it matters: After parking the franchise on Prime Video in 2022, Sony and Amazon MGM are putting "Hotel Transylvania 5" back in theaters — a vote of confidence in a family animation brand whose first three films collectively grossed roughly $1.36 billion worldwide before the streaming pivot.
