- Valar Atomics raised $1 billion in equity led by Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire, who joined the company's board, and secured a separate $200 million line of credit from Erebor and other banks
- Bloomberg reported the round valued Valar at $6 billion, though the company itself did not disclose its valuation
- Valar builds small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) — factory-built, miniaturized power plants designed to be cheaper and faster to deploy than traditional reactors
- In June, Valar's Ward 250 reactor successfully powered an Nvidia Blackwell system, and the company announced a deal with Nvidia to develop a waterless 30MW AI factory
- Additional investors include Apandion Capital, Atreides Management, Conviction, Dream Ventures, HOF Capital, Point72, Riot Ventures, Snowpoint Ventures, and Valor Equity Partners
- Valar is not alone in the space: Antares recently raised $470 million, and X-energy raised $1 billion through its IPO in recent months
Why it matters: Valar's Nvidia tie-up — powering a Blackwell system with its Ward 250 reactor and co-developing a waterless 30MW AI factory — positions nuclear not just as an energy bet but as direct AI infrastructure. With Sequoia leading at a reported $6B valuation, Valar enters a suddenly crowded SMR field where Antares and X-energy have already raised comparable sums.
