- Beau Hossler fired a 9-under 61 at Sedgefield Country Club to grab a one-shot lead after Round 1 of the 2026 Wyndham Championship — his fifth career first-round lead on Tour — leading the field in iron play with more than four strokes gained.
- Sahith Theegala and Ben James sit tied for second at 8-under (62), with Theegala opening with six straight birdies and needing just 10 putts on the front nine.
- Hossler entered the week at No. 122 in the FedEx Cup standings; a win would project him to No. 52 and extend his 2026 season after he missed the postseason entirely the last two years.
- Theegala entered riding a 13-made-cut streak and said he's "not guaranteed top 50," needing strong weeks to reach the Tour Championship after an injury-hampered 2025.
- Jackson Koivun lipped out a short birdie on No. 18, capturing the razor-thin bubble margins, while Steven Fisk held the inside track despite a poor Round 1 and Brooks Koepka (67) still needs at least a solo fourth-place finish to qualify.
- Hideki Matsuyama posted a 65 — his eighth straight round in the 60s — and sits at 14-1 on the DraftKings board, behind Hossler (8-1), James (9-1), and Theegala (10-1).
Why it matters: Hossler entered at No. 122 in the FedEx Cup standings and would jump roughly 70 spots to No. 52 with a win, after missing the postseason two straight years. The bubble math is the real story: Koivun lipped out a short birdie on 18, and Koepka (67) still needs a top-four finish to qualify.
