Axiom, Prada Reveal Moon Suit Base Layer for Artemis IV

- Axiom Space and Prada unveiled the Liquid Cooling and Ventilation Garment (LCVG), a base layer to be worn beneath the AxEMU spacesuit by Artemis IV crew members.
- The LCVG circulates cold water through embedded tubes to whisk heat away from the astronaut's body, and — unlike older cooling garments — includes a backup cooling system if the primary loop fails.
- The base layer also houses the ventilation system that supplies fresh oxygen to the AxEMU helmet and routes exhaled CO2 to a scrubber for recirculation.
- The garment is intended for Artemis IV, currently scheduled to return humans to the Moon in 2028.
- NASA's Prada-Axiom collaboration isn't its first fashion-meets-space project: the agency previously funded the BioSuit concept from MIT professor Dava Newman, developed with architect Guillermo Trotti.
Why it matters: The LCVG bundles redundant thermal regulation, oxygen delivery, and CO2 scrubbing into a single base layer, closing a life-safety gap left by older cooling suits that lacked backup cooling.
