Russia strikes an apartment block in Ukraine’s Kharkiv city, killing 1

- Russian bombs struck a low-rise apartment building in Kharkiv's Kholodnohirskiy district in the early hours of Saturday, killing at least one person and wounding nine, including a 6-year-old child whose body was later pulled from the rubble.
- A Russian drone hit a civilian vehicle elsewhere in Kharkiv on Friday evening, killing a man and wounding the woman driving the car, according to regional head Oleh Syniehubov.
- Russian guided bombs struck the outskirts of Sumy on Saturday and hit Zaporizhzhia, killing at least one civilian and four people respectively, and damaging at least 20 private houses in Sumy alone.
- Ukraine's air force reported shooting down 92 of 99 Russian drones launched overnight, with seven reaching targets in three locations; Moscow did not acknowledge the attacks.
- Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces shot down 177 Ukrainian drones during the same overnight period, including two on approach to Moscow per Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
- An oil refinery in Tyumen, Western Siberia, repelled a Ukrainian drone attack with no damage reported, Governor Alexander Moor said, with staff evacuated.
- Ukraine carried out one of the biggest drone attacks since the February 2022 invasion on Thursday, striking a major Moscow oil refinery for the second time in a week and sending black smoke over the capital while disrupting hundreds of flights.
Why it matters: Both sides sustained deep strikes into each other's territory this weekend — Russia hitting residential targets in at least three Ukrainian cities while Ukraine kept up its drone campaign on Russian energy infrastructure. At least seven Ukrainian civilians died in the named strikes, including a 6-year-old wounded in Kharkiv, and Ukraine's stated goal in targeting refineries is cutting Moscow's war revenue while fuel shortages have already been reported inside Russia.
