- Wagner Moura is in negotiations to join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in Warner Bros.' untitled Ocean's prequel, slated for release on June 25, 2027.
- Bradley Cooper is directing and co-producing the film alongside LuckyChap (Robbie's company) and wrote the screenplay, whose plot details are 'locked in the vault.'
- Margot Robbie confirmed at CinemaCon that the prequel takes place at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix and follows the crafty parents of con-man Danny Ocean before he ever stepped foot in Las Vegas.
- The Ocean's franchise — from Sinatra's 1960 original through Soderbergh's Clooney-led trilogy and 2018's Ocean's Eight — has earned more than $1.4 billion at the global box office.
- Wagner Moura recently made history as the first Brazilian nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars and the first to win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, both for Kleber Mendonça Filho's 'The Secret Agent.'
- Executive producers include Lee Isaac Chung, Gary Ross, Jay Roach and Bobby Wilhelm; Carrie Solomon handled previous drafts of Cooper's screenplay.
Why it matters: Warner Bros. is anchoring a June 2027 franchise extension with Cooper directing and starring, Robbie producing and starring, and Moura coming off a history-making Oscar nomination — stacking star power onto a series that has already cleared $1.4 billion worldwide. The 1962 Monaco Grand Prix setting gives the studio a period-heist hook distinct from the Las Vegas original.
