- Marvel Studios announced the full cast for its untitled X-Men reboot at D23, including Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Adam Driver (Nathaniel Milbury/Mr Sinister), Kit Connor (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott (Professor X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue), and Maya Boyd (Storm), with a May 2028 theatrical release directed by Jake Schreier.
- Adam Driver joins the MCU as the villainous Mr Sinister, telling fans he'd been discussing a Marvel role "for years" before finding "the perfect film at the perfect time," while Sink told the crowd she was thrilled to "finally talk about the character after months of speculation."
- Patrick Stewart will reprise Professor X in Avengers: Doomsday (out December) before Christopher Abbott assumes the role in the X-Men reboot, marking a baton-pass between the longtime X-franchise actor and the new generation.
- Avengers: Doomsday also screened a new trailer at D23, showing Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom in a fight scene with Chris Hemsworth's Thor.
- Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told D23 attendees that more X-Men casting news is still to come beyond the seven roles announced Friday.
- The untitled reboot is Marvel's first X-Men film since Disney acquired the franchise rights from 20th Century Fox in 2019, six years after the last Fox-produced entry, Dark Phoenix (June 2019).
Why it matters: Marvel's X-Men reboot finally activates a franchise sitting dormant since Disney's 2019 Fox acquisition, and Feige's promise of further casting means the reveal isn't over — with Driver's Mr Sinister established as the central antagonist for a May 2028 release that gives Marvel years to build the new mutant universe.
