- The Odyssey joined Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Michael as three billion-dollar milestone films this awards-season, and earned nominations for Ludwig Göransson’s score and “When I’m Home,” co-written by James Blake, Travis Scott, Göransson and Christopher Nolan.
- Michael received nominations in three categories: Jaafar Jackson’s on-screen performance for “Bad,” Antoine Fuqua as director of the music-themed biopic, and John Warhurst for film music supervision.
- Toy Story 5 collected animated-film song and score nominations: Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff wrote “I Knew It, I Knew You,” while Randy Newman is a score nominee.
- Linda Perry: Let It Die Here appears in two categories, with Linda Perry writing and performing documentary-song nominee “What Lies With You” and Don Hardy nominated as director in the music-documentary category.
- Wuthering Heights appears in feature-song and film music-supervision categories: Charli xcx performs “House Featuring John Cale,” written by Charlotte Aitchison, John Cale, Finn Keane and Nathan Klein, and Nicolette Di Dia is nominated for supervision.
- Dune: Part Three earned a sci-fi/fantasy score nomination for Hans Zimmer; the same slate includes John Williams for Disclosure Day, Daniel Pemberton for Project Hail Mary and Michael Giacchino for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
- Sinners won three HMMAs last year, taking Best Score and Song for a Feature Film and Best On-Screen Performance.
Why it matters: The November 18 field gives named composers, songwriters, performers, supervisors and directors formal recognition in their respective crafts. Separate categories also give “Michael” and “The Odyssey” recognition beyond one best-score or best-song contest, while the single 17th-annual event covers all of those roles.
