- Alexander Johnson wrote the screenplay for and will star as Dr. Charles Reed, a clinical psychologist drawn into a disturbing mystery after an emergency call from a teenage patient (Hugo Stone).
- Saffron Burrows (Troy), Steven Berkoff (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Michael Landes (Cruel Summer) and Hugo Stone (Prisoners of Paradise) round out the cast of the UK indie psychological thriller.
- Steven Fairman directed 'The Sacrifice' from Johnson's screenplay, with Johnson and Peter Bulbrook producing and Stefan Boehm serving as executive producer.
- The Sacrifice filmed on location across London, Devon, Surrey and Buckinghamshire and has now entered post-production, with festival and release plans still to be announced.
- Johnson's résumé includes Kristen Stewart's 'The Chronology of Water,' 'The Wizard of the Kremlin' with Jude Law and Paul Dano, and associate-producer credits on Cannes Grand Prix winner 'Minotaur'; he next appears opposite Riley Keough in 'Out Of This World.'
- Johnson described the film as 'a psychological thriller' that is 'beneath that… an exploration of identity, belonging and the choices people make when they're searching for meaning.'
Why it matters: With filming wrapped and a post-production phase underway, 'The Sacrifice' is now a finished shoot heading toward the festival circuit, where its writer-star Alexander Johnson — fresh from Kristen Stewart's 'The Chronology of Water' — could leverage the project into a bigger showcase role. The veteran support cast (Burrows, Berkoff) gives a low-budget UK indie credible gravitas as it shops to buyers.
