- Rosalind Eleazar stars as the title character in Chris Rock's drama "Misty Green," which opened in LA and New York and goes wide Oct. 16.
- Chris Rock auditioned close to 100 actors for the role, choosing Eleazar after she flew from LA to read with him in person following a chaotic first callback.
- Misty Green costars Adam Driver as Misty's longtime hook-up and drug dealer, Daniel Kaluuya as her brother with mental health issues, and Rock himself as a filmmaker offering her a second chance.
- Slow Horses casting director Nina Gold cast Eleazar as MI5 agent Louisa Guy after seeing her in Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" on London's West End; the Apple TV show's sixth season just dropped and a seventh is on the way.
- LAMDA accepted Eleazar after a theater-director friend used reverse psychology, pushing her to audition after she'd spent years in Ghana reconnecting with her late father's family.
- Oscar buzz has begun building around Eleazar's performance after the New York Film Festival premiere, though she admits "the exposure scares me a bit."
Why it matters: For Eleazar, "Misty Green" represents a leap from supporting TV work as a Slow Horses regular to a potential awards-season breakout as a complicated antiheroine, with Oscar chatter already circulating after the New York Film Festival. Rock's near-100-actor search and the Driver-Kaluuya-Rock supporting cast give the indie strong visibility heading into its Oct. 16 wide release.
