- Hitachi reported second-quarter Energy segment orders of ¥1,566.2 billion (nearly $10 billion), up nearly 50%, while segment revenue rose 28%; large-scale power infrastructure and data-center customers were significant drivers, with notable North American strength.
- Power Grids generated ¥893.7 billion (about $5.7 billion) in quarterly revenue, up 27% year over year, while Hitachi’s Nuclear Energy unit recorded ¥65.3 billion (about $415 million) and nuclear revenue climbed 48%.
- BWRX-300 is a 300-MW small modular reactor Hitachi is developing with GE Vernova; the first of four is planned for delivery to Ontario Power Generation in 2030.
- Tennessee Valley Authority tapped the joint venture to build at least one BWRX-300 in its territory, with delivery slated for 2032.
- Tomomi Kato said the data-center boom produced broad-based order growth that will enter revenue beginning next year, with no signs of an AI-investment pullback, delays or payment issues.
- Hitachi is managing a swelling backlog and inflationary pressure on long-lead contracts by using indexing to pass cost increases through during production and fulfillment.
- NVIDIA and its customers expect the chipmaker’s 800-volt data-center architecture to become the industry standard for high-performance computing facilities; Hitachi said it would provide the “grid-to-rack architecture.”
Why it matters: For Hitachi, data-center demand is becoming a near-term revenue channel: Energy orders rose nearly 50%, and orders booked this quarter will enter revenue next year. The 2030 Canadian and 2032 Tennessee reactor milestones also broaden its nuclear pipeline beyond the grid business that generated ¥893.7 billion.
