CBS places Romo on leave after OWI arrest

- CBS Sports placed Tony Romo on leave from his role as lead NFL game analyst until further notice following his OWI arrest in Milwaukee County.
- Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office issued Romo three citations after a July 23 traffic stop in which he was seen passing cars in a gore area, performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and had an open container of alcohol in his black Jeep.
- Court records show Romo was additionally cited for refusing to take a test for intoxication after arrest, with a court appearance scheduled for Sept. 21.
- Body camera footage released earlier this week shows Romo telling deputies he had been coming from a golf course and was heading "to visit grandma and grandpa," while a deputy cited "red glassy eyes" and an "odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage" as signs of impairment.
- J.J. Watt will step in as CBS' lead game analyst alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson; Watt joined CBS in 2023 and began game analysis last season after his Houston Texans career.
- Romo, 46, has served as CBS' lead game analyst since 2017 after a Dallas Cowboys career (2004–2016) that included four Pro Bowls and the franchise's career touchdown pass record (248) until Dak Prescott surpassed his passing yards mark last season.
