- Carolina Garcia has been let go as Netflix's director of original series after a decade with the streamer; she previously oversaw deals with creators including The Duffer Brothers, Brian Yorkey, Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions, Archewell, Shawn Levy's 21 Laps, Mara Brock Akil and Marti Noxon, as well as shows including "Stranger Things," "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" and "Atypical."
- Netflix is laying off approximately 1,000 employees, around 6% of its workforce, with co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters stating the heaviest impact would hit product, technology, legal and HR teams.
- Other TV executives departing include Lisa Lang McMullen (director, overall deals, series), Andrew McQuinn (director, original series), James Oh (director, original drama series) and Jason Pan (manager, original series creative development).
- Lang McMullen joined Netflix in 2021 as director of drama series development, was promoted in 2023, and previously spent 11 years at Walt Disney Television and six years at Warner Bros. TV as VP of comedy development.
- McQuinn worked on series including "Griselda," "American Primeval," "The Residence," "Zero Day" and "Vikings: Valhalla" during his Netflix tenure since 2018, after earlier stints at ABC Signature.
- Film VP Doug Belgrad has also been let go, marking the largest name on the film side of the cuts.
- Netflix declined to comment on the departures.
Why it matters: Co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters had framed the layoffs as concentrated in product, technology, legal and HR — yet programming lost the executive who oversaw deals with The Duffer Brothers, Nuyorican Productions, and Archewell, plus flagship shows like 'Stranger Things.' The cuts reach deeper into Netflix's content pipeline than the leadership's public framing suggested, and the executive sitting at the center of its highest-profile creator relationships is now gone.
