- Ludvig Åberg sits at 13 under and three clear after a one-under 71 in Saturday's third round, having built his cushion with a 20-foot eagle at the par-five 11th and a seven-foot birdie at the ninth
- Michael Thorbjornsen, a debutant, is in solo second at 10 under, three ahead of Cam Young (9 under), who double-bogeyed the 18th after finding water off the tee
- Matt Fitzpatrick dropped from contention with a closing double-bogey to fall into a tie for fourth (8 under) alongside Xander Schauffele, Brian Harman, Viktor Hovland, Justin Thomas and Corey Conners
- Scottie Scheffler carded a bogey-free 67 to climb 25 places to four under, while Bob MacIntyre fired the round of the day (65) to jump into the top 10
- Rory McIlroy, defending champion and the last player to convert a 36-hole lead at The Players (2019), carded a level-par 72 to sit on one over, nine shots off the pace
- Åberg is seeking his first PGA Tour title since the 2025 Genesis Invitational, with the final round broadcast live from 1pm on Sky Sports Golf
Why it matters: Åberg is 36 holes clear of the field by three shots and chasing his third PGA Tour title, with the last man to convert a 36-hole lead at this event being McIlroy in 2019 — the same McIlroy now 14 shots further back defending the title. A debutant in second and a double-bogey from Young on 18 mean the chasing pack is fragile, but Scheffler is charging up the board from 25 places below where he started the day.
