- Microsoft confirmed it will launch Gaming Copilot on current-generation Xbox consoles this year, per Xbox product manager Sonali Yadav at GDC, who also said the assistant will be added to "more services that players are playing."
- Gaming Copilot, already in beta on the Xbox mobile app, Windows 11, and Xbox Ally handhelds, responds to voice queries with boss strategies, crafting tips (e.g., Minecraft recipes), game history answers, and recommendations.
- Yadav did not specify which consoles would receive the feature; Microsoft's current-generation lineup includes the Xbox Series X|S.
- Microsoft's Project Helix console won't reach alpha until 2027 and will also play PC games — the company's first major Xbox launch under new leadership after former Xbox chief Phil Spencer.
- Asha Sharma, previously Microsoft's head of AI development for enterprise teams, took over as CEO of Microsoft Gaming in February; former Xbox president Sarah Bond also departed.
Why it matters: Microsoft's Gaming Copilot lands on consoles under a CEO who previously ran the company's enterprise AI division — tightening the pipeline between Microsoft's enterprise AI work and consumer gaming. Players gain voice-activated in-game help, and the rollout marks the first major Xbox initiative without former chief Phil Spencer, with next-gen Project Helix not reaching alpha until 2027.
