- Google announced Thursday that ads on Google Search, Google Discover and YouTube will receive a “created or edited with AI” disclosure in My Ad Center.
- My Ad Center displays the disclosure under “how this ad was made,” accessible through an ad’s three-dot menu or information button alongside options to block or report it.
- Google’s generative AI advertising tools trigger the label automatically, while ads made with outside AI tools require advertisers to apply it manually.
- Regional versions of the disclosure can appear directly on an ad, either automatically or after an advertiser states that AI was used.
- Meta already provides a similar “AI info” label through the “About this ad” panel on its platforms.
- Political ads on Google have carried disclosures for synthetic or digitally altered content since 2024, while Google expanded access to SynthID and C2PA content labels earlier this year.
Why it matters: People seeing ads across Google’s three named surfaces—Search, Discover and YouTube—gain a way to inspect AI involvement from the same panel used to block or report ads. But automatic disclosure covers Google’s own generative tools; ads produced elsewhere still depend on advertisers applying the label manually.
