- Volkswagen opened orders for the entry-level ID. Cross with a 37 kWh LFP battery starting at €27,995 (~$31,500) in Germany — slotting between the T-Cross (€25,280) and Tiguan (€39,385) in the lineup
- CEO Thomas Schäfer called the ID. Cross "modern, reliable, and above all, affordable" after it entered production at Volkswagen's Pamplona, Spain plant, framing it as a "true Volkswagen" and the electric equivalent of the T-Cross
- The ID. Cross is now offered in three variants — Trend (85 kW/114 hp), Life and Style (99 kW/132 hp standard, or 155 kW/207 hp optional) — with a larger 52 kWh NMC pack delivering up to 265 miles of WLTP range
- DC fast charging reaches 90 kW on the 37 kWh pack and 105 kW on the 52 kWh pack, with both batteries filling from 10% to 80% in roughly 23–24 minutes
- The interior adopts VW's new digital cockpit setup with a 10.25" Digital Cockpit Pro and 12.9" center infotainment screen, plus a Retro Display mode styled after the first-generation Golf
- Volkswagen has no plans to bring the ID. Cross to the US, but will launch the ID. Tiguan in early 2027 as the ID.4's replacement
Why it matters: Volkswagen is pricing the ID. Cross more than €11,000 below the Tiguan to anchor a new entry-level EV family on the MEB+ platform, betting that sub-€28,000 stickers will pull European budget buyers away from rivals like the Dacia Spring and Renault 5 E-Tech. By keeping the car in Europe only, VW preserves a low-cost volume play for its home market while leaving the US to wait for the larger ID. Tiguan in 2027.
