BYD launches the Qin Max EV for half the price of a Tesla Model 3

- BYD launched the Qin Max sedan in China with the EV variant starting at 109,900 yuan (~$16,500) — about half the 235,500 yuan (~$35,000) starting price of the Tesla Model 3 RWD.
- Qin Max EV uses BYD's Blade Battery 2.0 with Flash Charging, recharging from 10% to 70% in five minutes and 10% to 97% in nine minutes, per BYD.
- Qin Max EV offers a single motor in 160 hp or 321 hp configurations with CLTC range up to 330 or 391 miles, while the plug-in DM-i variant pairs a 1.5-liter engine with a 234 hp motor for 199 miles of pure-electric range and 1,472 miles combined.
- Qin Max includes BYD's God's Eye B ADAS suite with roof-mounted LiDAR — hardware previously limited to higher-priced BYD models — plus a 15.6-inch center screen and 8.8-inch driver display.
- Qin Max is essentially the same vehicle as the Seal 06 that BYD launched days earlier, sharing identical pricing despite sitting in BYD's Dynasty lineup versus the Seal 06's Ocean Series branding.
Why it matters: BYD is putting its newest Blade Battery 2.0 flash-charging system and God's Eye B LiDAR ADAS — both previously reserved for pricier models — into a sub-$17K sedan, narrowing the tech gap with Tesla while pricing at roughly half the Model 3's China sticker. Chinese EV buyers now get sub-10-minute fast charging and assisted driving features that were exclusive to premium segments just months ago.
