- David Jonsson was unveiled as the new Black Panther by director Ryan Coogler at Marvel Studios' Comic-Con International presentation on Saturday, alongside co-stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke.
- Jonsson will play the son of Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa in Black Panther III, with Coogler telling the panel the character "grows up" and "comes of age" in the next film.
- Black Panther III is slated for US cinemas on 15 December 2028, with a UK release date yet to be confirmed.
- Jonsson, a London-born former West End performer, won the Bafta rising star award in 2025 and is known for roles in Industry, The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus.
- Boseman died in 2020 aged 43 from colon cancer, and 2022's Wakanda Forever revealed T'Challa had a son and passed the mantle to Shuri (Wright) as the franchise's new protagonist.
- Coogler won the Oscar for best original screenplay for his vampire film Sinners earlier this year and co-produced the 2025 Marvel series Ironheart and Eyes of Wakanda.
