Supercar acceleration as a prestige moat is collapsing: once acceleration is a spec sheet line item any well-funded EV maker can deliver, the halo pricing European marques built on "feel" and heritage now has to defend a much smaller island of differentiation.

- Denza Z is BYD's new electric supercar launched at Goodwood FOS, delivering 1,582 hp (1,604 PS) from three electric motors on BYD's new e3 platform — more than double the 701 hp Porsche 911 Turbo S.
- Racing variant accelerates from 0-62 mph in 1.96 seconds on optional semi-slick tires with a top speed of 217 mph; the Coupe hits 0-62 mph in 2.25 seconds, the Spider in 2.3 seconds.
- e3 platform features China's first fully in-house-developed steer-by-wire system, an 800V architecture with BYD Flash Charging that takes the 76 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 from 10% to 70% in roughly five minutes.
- UK pricing for the Denza Z starts at £142,900 ($192,000) for the Coupe, £159,900 for the Spider, and £172,900 for the Racing — all below the £199,100 Porsche 911 Turbo S.
- Chinese pre-orders opened at 680,000 RMB ($100,000) for the Coupe Hardtop, roughly half the UK price; customer deliveries are slated to begin by the end of 2026.
Why it matters: The Denza Z puts 1,582 hp and sub-2-second 0-62 mph acceleration under £145,000 in the UK — more than double the Porsche 911 Turbo S's 701 hp at a lower sticker. With Chinese pre-orders starting at $100,000 (about half the UK figure), BYD's sub-brand is taking the performance fight directly to Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes in flagship supercar territory where European brands have historically set pricing power.
