- Quantum Systems Group recorded its Apex Recordhunter drone reaching 699 km/h (434 mph) in straight and level flight during internal testing last month, convincingly outpacing the current record holder's 657.59 km/h (409 mph).
- The Apex Recordhunter was developed over the past year as a technology demonstrator for next-gen electrically powered drones, with a Guinness World Record entry still pending and a formal verification attempt expected in the coming weeks.
- WIY Drones, a Ukrainian branch of Quantum Systems, is collaborating on the project and plans its own record attempts for an FPV interceptor drone carrying a 0.5 kg payload and an anti-aircraft class FPV interceptor drone.
- The Recordhunter is being assessed for future interceptor drone programs, with WIY Drones positioning the platform as a response to faster and more maneuverable Russian aerial threats crossing the border.
- New Zealand builders Aidan and Ben recorded their Blackbird drone at up to 453 mph (730 km/h) in May using exotic sawtooth carbon fiber propeller blades, though that record likewise remains unofficial without an independent certified observer.
Why it matters: The record runs are explicitly tied to anti-aircraft interceptor programs, with Quantum Systems' Ukrainian arm WIY Drones targeting faster, more maneuverable aerial threats. A Guinness-verified benchmark from either the German or New Zealand teams would set a new performance floor that electric interceptor drones must exceed to remain viable against evolving Russian UAV threats.
