- Netflix hired Mohammed Adnan as manager of documentary series in its U.S. team, tapping a producer whose credits include the Emmy-nominated Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts for HBO Max.
- Adnan joins from Story Films, where he served as Vice President of Development based in New York; Story Films bosses Peter Beard and David Nath said the company has begun recruiting his replacement.
- Story Films, backed by All3Media, previously produced The Manhattan Alien Abduction for Netflix, and Adnan earlier held senior roles heading up U.S. development at October Films and as Global Head of Development at Pulse Films.
- Adnan's earlier credits include Inside Missguided: Made in Manchester, Desi Rascals, and Don't Scream, per his professional history.
- Netflix's recent documentary series slate includes Michael Jackson: The Verdict, The American Experiment, and Dynasty: The Murdochs — the lineup Adnan walks into alongside commissioning colleagues Chloe Gbai and Molly Harrington.
- Adnan traced his career origin to the BBC greenlighting his first documentary during his first TV job as a runner, saying in a LinkedIn post that Netflix has 'fundamentally reshaped the documentary landscape.'
Why it matters: Netflix gains a docs commissioning manager whose Harry Potter 20th Anniversary special was an Emmy-nominated hit for HBO Max, while Story Films loses its VP of Development and begins recruiting a replacement — bolstering Netflix's pipeline alongside existing team members Gbai and Harrington.
