- BYD revealed design sketches of the second-generation Seagull, featuring a 'Dynamic new look' with Trident-shaped lights and refreshed surfaces, preserving the classic design while expanding space.
- Zhang Zhuo, general manager of BYD’s Ocean series sales division, shared the sketches on social media, confirming the updated model will be named the 'Great Seagull' and launch by the end of 2026.
- The Great Seagull measures 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,570 mm high with a 2,650 mm wheelbase—significantly larger than the current 3,780 mm-long Seagull—per China’s MIIT filing.
- The new Seagull will use a 95 kW (127 hp) electric motor, up from the current model’s 55 kW (75 hp) unit, and is expected to feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging technology.
- Spy images of the undisguised vehicle show a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, suggesting the new model will include an upgraded ADAS system with BYD’s God’s Eye B technology.
- The interior includes a larger infotainment screen, redesigned center console, and a two-spoke steering wheel, based on leaked images from last month.
Why it matters: The Great Seagull’s increased size, power, and tech upgrades position it to maintain BYD’s edge in the budget EV segment, where even a $10,000 price point undercuts most global competitors.
