- BYD confirmed at the Chengdu Auto Show that the new model will be called the Great Seagull and launch in China by the end of 2026.
- MIIT’s regulatory filing lists the Great Seagull at 4,205 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, 1,570 mm tall and with a 2,650-mm wheelbase.
- Great Seagull will use a 95-kW electric motor, up from the current Seagull’s 55 kW, according to the approved model details.
- Great Seagull is expected to use BYD’s Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology, while its preview shows a roof-mounted LiDAR; battery specifications remain unconfirmed.
- 2026 Seagull is offered with 30.08-kWh and 38.88-kWh batteries, providing CLTC ranges of up to 305 km and 405 km, respectively.
- Great Seagull has a redesigned front end, slim LED headlights, a larger infotainment screen, a new center console and a two-spoke steering wheel.
Why it matters: The new model gives European buyers a described sub-€30,000 step above BYD’s €22,900 Dolphin Surf, pairing a 4,205-mm body with 95-kW power. That combination moves the Great Seagull beyond the current model’s 3,780-mm, 55-kW format while keeping it smaller than BYD’s Dolphin and aimed at the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo and Renault Megane.
