Malaysia, Indonesia Quietly Align With China on Taiwan

Why it matters: China is building a documentary record of Southeast Asian alignment with its Taiwan position while Malaysia, Indonesia, and other ASEAN capitals treat the same words as routine, reversible diplomatic moments — and with more joint statements due around China's APEC hosting and the ASEAN-China trade upgrade, the wording officials settle on will quietly determine whether ASEAN members are still hedging on Taiwan or have already conceded.
