- Russian forces struck Odesa and Chernomorsk ports in a fifth consecutive day of attacks, killing at least 3 civilians and wounding 3 others, while Russia's Ministry of Defence confirmed the strikes and claimed targets were fuel storage and drone assembly facilities.
- Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper described the assault as "massive," saying it hit civilian, industrial, and port infrastructure that handles much of Ukraine's grain and cargo and is vital to its wartime economy.
- Ukraine's drone force commander Robert Brovdi said Kyiv struck 17 Russian oil tankers, 2 gas tankers, and 1 tugboat in the Black Sea, claiming 116 Russian vessels had been "hunted down" over a nine-day period.
- Russia announced it was preparing to redirect exports from the Sea of Azov following waves of Ukrainian shipping attacks, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov calling the strikes "terrorism."
- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv and said she would announce new initiatives to integrate EU-Ukrainian defense industries, writing: "So we can produce more, and faster."
Why it matters: Russia's public acknowledgment that it must reroute Sea of Azov exports confirms Ukrainian drone strikes are materially disrupting Russian shipping logistics, while Russia's simultaneous escalation of strikes on Odesa targets the hub handling much of Ukraine's grain cargo. Von der Leyen's Kyiv visit with EU defense industry integration pledges signals Europe is moving from ad hoc aid toward structural military-industrial coupling with Ukraine.
