- Average new EV price fell to $54,813 in August, down 1.2% from July and 2.7% year over year, according to Kelley Blue Book.
- Industry-wide ATP rose to $50,089 in August — up 0.5% month over month and 1.9% year over year — the first month in 2026 that the average new-vehicle price topped $50,000.
- The EV price premium over the average new vehicle shrank to 9.4% in August, down from more than 16% a year earlier, leaving EVs about $4,700 more expensive on average — the smallest gap KBB has recorded.
- EV incentive spending averaged 12% of transaction price in August, down from 12.2% in July and 14.6% a year earlier, but still nearly twice the industry-wide average of 6.5%.
- Tesla's average transaction price dropped to $52,616 in August, down 2.4% from July and 3.4% year over year — and because Tesla still accounts for such a large share of US EV sales, its pricing continues to pull the overall EV average lower.
Why it matters: Tesla's aggressive price cuts are pulling the entire EV market toward parity with traditional vehicles faster than the broader auto market is moving — the 9.4% premium is down from 16%+ a year ago, and the $4,700 average gap is the narrowest KBB has recorded, putting EVs within striking distance of matching gasoline sticker prices.
