- NeoVolta Power signed a five-year supply agreement with Seoul-based SK On for 9 GWh of US-made lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells to be delivered between 2027 and 2031 to its Pendergrass, Georgia factory.
- Under the deal, SK On becomes the primary cell supplier for NeoVolta's LFP pouch-cell storage products, with cells assembled into battery energy storage systems (BESS) for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects.
- The agreement includes a non-binding framework for an additional 9 GWh where SK On would supply cells, NeoVolta would build them into packs, and SK On would then purchase those packs — potentially bringing the collaboration to 18 GWh by 2031, though the second tranche still depends on future orders and commercial terms.
- NeoVolta's Pendergrass plant first line is currently in commissioning and ramp-up, designed for 2 GWh of annual output with room to scale to 8 GWh; the SK On supply could support a second pouch-format LFP line targeting up to 8 GWh of annual capacity by 2028.
- CEO Ardes Johnson called the deal "an important milestone in NeoVolta's expansion into large-scale energy storage" and said it reinforces the company's strategy to build a domestic energy storage platform.
- NeoVolta launched its US battery manufacturing platform in January 2025 and noted that LFP chemistry was chosen for stationary storage because of its long cycle life, strong thermal stability, and avoidance of nickel and cobalt.
Why it matters: The firm 9 GWh gives NeoVolta a locked-in, US-made LFP cell pipeline through 2031, de-risking the Pendergrass factory's scale-up toward its targeted 8 GWh annual capacity by 2028. The optional 9 GWh back-half, where SK On would buy finished packs from NeoVolta, could turn NeoVolta into SK On's US BESS assembly partner — but only if follow-on orders materialize. SK On gains a domestic pack channel for its LFP cells while NeoVolta gains a tier-one cell supplier.
