- "Verity" is #2 on Amazon's hardcover bestsellers chart and #2 on Audible's audiobook charts (100+ weeks on the latter), trailing only Rebecca Yarros's new "Threshing Day."
- "Verity" the film, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett, opens in theaters nationwide Oct. 2, roughly seven months after its March announcement.
- Colleen Hoover self-published "Verity" in 2018; Grand Central Publishing acquired it in 2021 after it became a #1 New York Times Bestseller and BookTok favorite.
- The 368-page novel follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, hired to complete the series of comatose bestselling author Verity Crawford, only to uncover an unpublished, bone-chilling autobiography.
- The adaptation is Hoover's second film in quick succession, following the Blake Lively- and Justin Baldoni-led "It Ends With Us" released last year.
Why it matters: 'Verity' marks Colleen Hoover's second film adaptation in roughly a year after 'It Ends With Us,' and the book has logged 100+ weeks on Audible's charts — evidence that BookTok-era bestsellers sustain multi-year reader demand large enough to justify expensive studio adaptations.
