- BMW said the second-generation X7 will arrive in 2027 with the fully electric iX7, establishing the brand’s first three-row EV and the top of its EV lineup.
- iX7 prototypes were spotted with a slimmer, upright Kidney Grille, small door handles mounted on the pillar and retained split headlights, while the SUV avoids a full Neue Klasse-style redesign.
- X7 will reportedly use a standard one-piece tailgate after BMW dropped the split tailgate on the new X5; the information comes from a Reddit user claiming to work at BMW’s South Carolina factory and remains unconfirmed.
- X7 is expected to pair an X5-like dashboard and center console with upgraded 7 Series features, including optional rear screens; the 31.3-inch 8K BMW Theatre Screen, 14.6-inch BMW Passenger Screen and rear-door touch panels all come from the same unconfirmed Reddit report.
- iX7 is expected to use a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup like the iX5 60 xDrive, whose system delivers 578 hp, 593 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time of 4.4 seconds.
- BMW says the related iX5 60 xDrive has a 144 kWh battery, an 800V system and up to 435 miles of range, and can add 170 miles in 10 minutes; the iX5 also hit a 464 kW charging peak, and none of these figures is confirmed for the iX7.
- BMW expects the new X7 and iX7 to enter production at its Spartanburg plant in late 2027, joining the new iX5.
Why it matters: For BMW, the 2027 plan expands its EV lineup to three rows for the first time and keeps the X7, iX7 and iX5 tied to Spartanburg production. The new iX7 adds a large luxury EV option, but BMW confirms no range, charging or final power figures; the iX5’s 578 hp and 435-mile benchmarks are not iX7 specifications.
