- Met Office’s yellow wind warning covered most of Scotland and parts of northern England and Northern Ireland from 03:00 until it was lifted at 18:00 Tuesday; the latest system was less widely disruptive than Storm Boelo or Storm Austen, with gusts of 76mph at Stornoway Airport and 71mph at Tiree.
- SSEN reconnected 108,000 customers after Storm Boelo, with 2,000 still without power; SPEN said all but a very small number of its 50,000 affected customers in Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway would have power restored by 02:00 Tuesday.
- Storm Boelo brought heavy flooding and wind gusts of up to 85mph on Monday; a 60-year-old man died after being struck by a falling tree near Castle Douglas on Sunday.
- Police Scotland joined an extensive search for a person reportedly swept out to sea in Largs after large waves struck the Ayrshire coast; the search was halted with no one found.
- ScotRail said the vast majority of services were running normally but warned that speed restrictions would be in place on routes including Glasgow Queen Street–Oban/Mallaig and Inverness–Kyle of Lochalsh because of heavy rain; CalMac warned of short-notice disruption, and NorthLink Ferries said disruption remained possible until Thursday.
- The Highlands saw full or partial closures at 30 primary schools and six secondary schools, while all schools and nurseries in the Western Isles were due to stay shut until Wednesday at the earliest.
- Sepa put an amber flood risk in place for the northern and Western Isles, Caithness and Sutherland; Police Scotland closed the Churchill Barriers and the road through St Mary’s Holm, while Highland Council closed flood gates near Fort William.
Why it matters: SSEN’s restoration of 108,000 customers shows the scale of Storm Boelo’s disruption, but 2,000 customers still lacked power after the warning ended. Rail speed limits, NorthLink’s warning of possible disruption through Thursday and Western Isles school closures until Wednesday left services constrained beyond the alert’s 18:00 end.
