- Environmentalists worldwide celebrated Lula’s reelection as a win for the Amazon’s future and global climate policy.
- Lula, the three-term incumbent, narrowly defeated right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
Why it matters: For environmental advocates, the material change is that Lula remains Brazil’s president after a narrow reelection, continuing a three-term tenure, rather than Flávio Bolsonaro taking office. The source also preserves their insistence that the fight is far from over, so the result supports celebration without resolving their policy concerns.
