- Lula was reelected as Brazil’s three-term incumbent, narrowly defeating right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.
- Environmentalists celebrated the result as a victory for the Amazon’s future and global climate policy but warned that the fight remains far from over.
Why it matters: For climate activists worldwide, the three-term incumbent’s narrow win over Flávio Bolsonaro is the material change they sought on the Amazon and global climate policy. Their warning that the fight remains far from over preserves the distinction between an election result they welcome and the broader struggle they say is unfinished.
