- Volkswagen is launching a long-wheelbase version of the ID. Buzz Cargo electric van, stretching the commercial EV to roughly 5,000 mm — about 300 mm longer than the 4,712 mm standard-wheelbase version.
- The LWB ID. Buzz Cargo offers up to 4.4 cubic meters of cargo space and a maximum load length of 2,405 mm, up from 3.9 cubic meters and 2,208 mm in the standard model.
- Despite its extra length, the longer ID. Buzz Cargo carries a max payload of only 697 kg — roughly 53 kg less than the 750 kg max payload of the standard SWB version.
- The LWB powertrain pairs an 86 kWh battery with single- or all-wheel-drive options, targeting a WLTP range of about 300 miles versus 277 miles for the standard van's 79 kWh pack.
- In 4MOTION trim, the LWB ID. Buzz Cargo delivers up to 250 kW (335 hp), a jump from the 210 kW (281 hp) available in the standard version, alongside a new steering wheel with added physical buttons and an improved Travel Assist ADAS system.
- Volkswagen is positioning the LWB against Kia's upcoming PV7 — a larger sibling to the PV5 — as both brands expand their electric commercial vehicle lineups; pricing and full specs have not yet been announced.
Why it matters: Fleet buyers get more cargo volume (4.4 m³ vs 3.9 m³) and ~23 miles of extra WLTP range with the LWB, but the 697 kg payload — 53 kg lower than the SWB's 750 kg cap — means operators running heavy loads may still need the shorter van, a tradeoff the launch framing obscures.
