- Volkswagen is launching a long-wheelbase (LWB) version of its ID. Buzz Cargo electric van to compete with Kia's planned PV7, a larger sibling to the PV5
- The LWB ID. Buzz Cargo measures roughly 5,000 mm long (about 300 mm longer than the standard model) with a maximum load length of 2,405 mm
- Cargo capacity rises to up to 4.4 cubic meters, a jump from the 3.9 cubic meters offered in the standard-wheelbase version
- Maximum payload actually drops on the LWB to 697 kg, down from the standard model's 750 kg maximum
- The LWB will offer an 86 kWh battery for a WLTP range of around 300 miles, up from the 79 kWh / 277 miles in the standard version
- Powertrain options include single- or all-wheel-drive (4MOTION), delivering up to 250 kW (335 hp) combined, up from 210 kW (281 hp) in the standard van
- Inside, the van gets a new steering wheel with added physical buttons and an improved Travel Assist ADAS system; pricing and full specs have not yet been announced
Why it matters: Commercial fleet buyers gain roughly half a cubic meter of extra cargo volume and about 23 more miles of WLTP range, yet payload capacity actually falls by 53 kg — meaning VW is betting fleet operators want volume over hauling weight in the longer ID. Buzz Cargo.
