- Hyundai opened IONIQ 3 orders in the UK starting at £22,245 (~$30,000) for the base Advance trim and €27,995 (~$32,000) in the Netherlands, with four trims and two battery options
- Hyundai said the IONIQ 3 has generated "the highest-ever level of customer interest recorded for a new Hyundai model," a figure the company said spans both gas and electric vehicles
- The IONIQ 3 uses a 400V architecture rather than the IONIQ 5's 800V to reduce costs, with the 61 kWh extended-range battery delivering up to 308 miles of WLTP range and 10–80% DC fast charging in about 30 minutes
- The IONIQ 3 is the first Hyundai vehicle in Europe and the UK equipped with the new Pleos Connect infotainment system, which is built on Android Automotive OS and offers a 12.9" or 14.6" center screen
- Hyundai began IONIQ 3 production last Friday at its Izmit plant in Turkey with initial annual capacity of 30,000 vehicles, and expects models to arrive in showrooms by late September
- The IONIQ 3 is built in Turkey for Europe only; Electrek notes US buyers are excluded because Trump administration tariffs make importing too costly, leaving the Georgia-built IONIQ 5 ($35,000) and sister Kia's 2027 EV3 ($29,890) as US alternatives
Why it matters: At ~$30,000, the IONIQ 3 undercuts most mainstream EVs and intensifies price pressure in Europe, where Hyundai recorded its highest-ever customer interest for a new model. US consumers miss out entirely because Trump-era tariffs make Turkey-built imports uneconomical, leaving Hyundai to defend US share with the $35,000 Georgia-built IONIQ 5 and Kia's $29,890 EV3.
