Hyundai is about to launch the IONIQ 3, and it plans to sell over 40,000 in 2027

- Hyundai will open IONIQ 3 orders across Europe in H2 2026, with mass production starting mid-August at its Izmit, Turkey plant and a target of over 40,000 units sold in 2027.
- Hyundai CEO Chung Euisun personally inspected the Izmit plant ahead of launch, telling employees the IONIQ 3 must be "recognized as the best vehicle in Europe" for safety and quality.
- The IONIQ 3 is priced from £22,245 (~$29,800) in the UK and €27,995 (~$32,000) in the Netherlands, offered with 42.2 kWh or 61 kWh battery packs delivering up to 308 miles of WLTP range.
- The IONIQ 3 is Hyundai's first European vehicle equipped with its next-gen Pleos infotainment system — Android Automotive OS-based with up to 14.6″ screens and an AI companion called Gleo AI.
- Hyundai says the IONIQ 3 has drawn "the highest-ever level of customer interest recorded for a new Hyundai model" ahead of launch.
- B-segment EVs currently hold just 14% of European B-segment sales, but Hyundai is betting on a segment projected to reach 33% by 2030 and 65% by 2035.
Why it matters: Hyundai is staking a major volume push on a sub-segment where EVs are still a minority — just 14% of B-segment sales today — but one regulators and projections say will grow to 33% by 2030. A £22,245 starting price undercuts most European B-segment rivals, and the 40,000-unit 2027 target would make the IONIQ 3 one of Hyundai's highest-volume EVs in the region.
