- Hyundai is preparing two new electric SUVs—the IONIQ 4 and IONIQ 7—set for launch in the next 12 to 18 months and likely designed for the European market rather than the US.
- IONIQ 4 is positioned as a B-segment SUV between the IONIQ 3 and IONIQ 5, expected with 42 kWh (up to 214 miles WLTP) and 61 kWh (up to 308 miles WLTP) battery options, Hyundai's Pleos Connect infotainment, and a starting price around £25,000 ($33,000).
- IONIQ 7 will fill the gap between the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 with two- or three-row seating, an 800V fast-charging architecture, at least 400 miles WLTP range, dual- and single-motor powertrains, and pricing around £45,000–£50,000 ($60,000–$66,000).
- Chris McKinnon, Hyundai Europe's VP of product, told Auto Express to "watch this space" on the IONIQ 4, declined to confirm whether it will resemble the Kia EV3, and called the B-segment market "important" for the brand.
- IONIQ 4 is expected to replace the still-available Kona Electric in the UK as Hyundai consolidates its B-segment EV lineup around a boxier SUV design language.
Why it matters: Hyundai's two new EVs bracket the IONIQ 5 with pricing from £25,000 to £50,000 and a clear family-size hierarchy, with the IONIQ 7's 800V architecture and 400+ mile WLTP range going head-to-head against premium family EV rivals. The IONIQ 4's arrival effectively retires the aging Kona Electric in the UK, completing Hyundai's pivot toward boxier SUV styling across its B-segment lineup.
