- Google upgraded Gemini to generate interactive 3D models and simulations in response to prompts, letting users rotate the model, manually adjust sliders, or input different values to change the simulation in real time.
- When tested with a Moon-orbiting-Earth request, Gemini produced a 3D model with an orbital-speed slider, a toggle to hide the orbital path, a pause button, plus zoom and rotate functions.
- The update comes weeks after Anthropic added automatic charts, diagrams, and interactive visuals to Claude, and OpenAI added math and science concept visualizations to ChatGPT — all three labs shipping visual upgrades in close succession.
- Gemini previously could only generate interactive images in response to prompts, making 3D models and variable-driven simulations a step beyond its earlier capability.
- All Gemini app users can access the feature by selecting the "Pro" model in the prompt bar and using prompts like "show me a double pendulum" or "help me visualize the Doppler effect," then tapping the "Show me the visualization" button beneath the response.
Why it matters: The three major AI chatbot providers are converging on interactive visual responses within weeks of each other, shifting the competitive baseline from text and static images toward manipulable 3D output. Gemini's new feature is gated behind the "Pro" model selection, meaning free-tier users face a paywall that competing offerings from Anthropic and OpenAI may not impose for their respective visual upgrades.
