BYD undercuts Defender with its first 7-seat SUV in the UK

- BYD opened UK orders for the Ti 7, a seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV, priced at £47,995 on the road — about £24,000 below the £71,840 Defender 110 PHEV.
- The Ti 7 is the first UK model with BYD's DM-p powertrain, pairing a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with three electric motors for 402 hp and a 0–62 mph time of 4.8 seconds.
- A 35.6 kWh BYD Blade Battery delivers up to 74 miles of pure-electric WLTP range (102 miles in city driving), more than double the Defender PHEV's 31.1-mile figure.
- BYD is selling the Ti 7 exclusively in Excellence AWD flagship trim, with standard kit including acoustic glass front windows, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front and second-row seats, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch driver display, an 18-speaker sound system, and a built-in refrigerator/drinks warmer.
- With the second and third rows folded, the Ti 7 offers 1,830 liters of cargo space; middle-row seats adjust in four directions for added flexibility.
- BYD is taking £500 deposits (which it will match) ahead of customer deliveries, which are expected to begin in January 2027.
Why it matters: UK buyers shopping for a seven-seat plug-in hybrid SUV now have a £47,995 option that undercuts the Defender 110 PHEV by £24,000 while delivering more than double its electric range (74 vs 31.1 miles). The catch: no deliveries until January 2027, and the single Excellence AWD trim means there's no cheaper entry point for budget-focused families.
