Clowney returning to roots, plans to join Texans

- Jadeveon Clowney agreed to a contract with the Houston Texans, the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2014 and where he played his first five NFL seasons as a three-time Pro Bowler.
- Clowney, 33, told the Houston Chronicle he has "grown up and learned the game a lot more" since last playing for Houston in 2018 and feels he can help mentor younger teammates.
- The Texans' pass rush already features Will Anderson Jr. (12 sacks, first-team All-Pro) and Danielle Hunter (15 sacks, second-team All-Pro), who combined for 27 sacks in 2025.
- Clowney led the Dallas Cowboys with 8.5 sacks in 2025 — one off his career high — across 13 games after signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal in mid-September to help replace Micah Parsons.
- After being franchise-tagged and traded to Seattle in July 2019, Clowney went on to play for the Seahawks, Titans, Browns, Ravens, Panthers, and Cowboys, accumulating 66.5 career sacks.
Why it matters: Houston's defense, already elite with Anderson and Hunter combining for 27 sacks and two All-Pro nods, now adds a veteran edge rusher coming off his most productive season since 2017. For Dallas, losing their 8.5-sack team leader widens the production gap left by the Micah Parsons trade.
