- BYD released the first images of the 2027 Seal 06 EV on Monday via Zhang Zhou, head of sales at its Ocean Sales Division, ahead of a launch date that has yet to be confirmed.
- The 2027 Seal 06 adds a roof-mounted LiDAR, replacing the current model's camera-only God's Eye ADAS and DiPilot 100 setup; BYD has not said whether the sensor will be standard or optional.
- Regulatory filings show the updated sedan measures 4,870 mm long with a 2,820 mm wheelbase — 150 mm longer than the current Seal 06.
- CLTC range rises to 630 km (391 miles), up from 545 km in the 2026 model.
- Two single-motor options deliver 120 kW or 240 kW, up from 110 kW and 160 kW in the outgoing version.
- The current 2026 Seal 06 EV starts at 109,800 yuan ($16,200) in China — roughly half the Tesla Model 3's 235,500 yuan ($34,800) starting price.
- The Tesla Model 3 still edges the new BYD on range, at 634 km (CLTC) versus 630 km.
Why it matters: BYD is closing the spec gap with the Tesla Model 3 — matching its range within 4 km while adding 80 kW of extra motor power and LiDAR — and doing so at about half the price. The Model 3 only wins on range now, but BYD is winning on every other axis in China's largest sedan segment.
